St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Sunday School Program provides opportunities for children to learn, laugh, play, build friendships, and share in the love and fellowship of our faith. St. Peter’s is blessed with many wonderful families, a supportive congregation and dedicated teachers. The Sunday school teachers are all volunteers who are have completed a background screening by the Diocese of Eastern Carolina and the Safeguarding Our Children course.

Sunday school meets during the 10am service from 10am until the Peace. The children are brought into church to participate in communion. We meet September through May. There are two classes, Kindergarten through 2nd grade (meets in the classroom off the parish hall) and 3rd through 5/6th grade (meets downstairs in the undercroft). We use the SPARK WHIRL Curriculum.

Every WHIRL lesson follows a four-part sequence: Welcome, Hear, Respond, and Launch (WHRL!). Each week, the children and leaders start their time together by identifying where they are in the church year and watching an animated video to set up the lesson. Next, they dive into the Whirl Story Bible or Whirl NRSV Bible together, respond to the scripture lesson with creative leaflet activities, and circle up to review the lesson and pray before heading into church.

Throughout the year we offer many fun events for children and their families to participate in beyond that of Sunday School. For more information about upcoming events please see the church calendar and/or contact the church office.
