Habitat for Humanity

Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with God’s people in need by building and renovating houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow into all that God intended.

Habitat homes are funded by donations from individuals, churches, businesses and foundations and Habitat homeowners. They are built by volunteers in partnership with Habitat homebuyers. The homebuyers must complete 150 hours of work on other Habitat projects and an additional 250 hours on their own Habitat home. Habitat sells the home at no-profit and no-interest to the homeowners.

The Crystal Coast Habitat group, which operates in Carteret County, constructs 3 to five houses a year and has its headquarters at 5898 Hwy 70W Newport, North Carolina. Visit them on the web at wwww.crystalcoasthabitat.org or call 252-223-2111 for further information. They also have a deconstruction crew, “the Hornets”, which remove reusable items from homes that are either being demolished or updated. These items are taken to the Habitat “Resale Store” (also at the above address) to be sold. Contact Diane Schools at dschools@ec.rr.com">dschools@ec.rr.com for more information. Most of the demolition work is on Emerald Isle.

Onslow County also has a Habitat Chapter. It’s name is Jacksonville/Onslow Habitat for Humanity.
